Soul mate relationships are a phenomenon which only a few people get to experience during their lifetime. Here is the where, when, why and how of soul mate relationships There has been an usually high number of soul mates meeting up this year which has prompted me to write this blog. It has been a subject which I have avoided sharing in detail since it is so complex in nature and only understood by a few. Those who have experienced a soul mate relationship will have a higher understanding of what I’m talking about. The term soul mate has typically been used to describe a romantic coupling which lasts throughout the lifetime of both people involved. Many people will refer to their spouse as a soul mate and perceive a soul mate relationship to be harmonious and loving. The reality of soul mate relationships is anything but though. It is true that our soul mate loves us, but this love is set in the spiritual plane and on a soul level rather than in our physical plane. A soul mate’s sole purpose is to help our soul grow so that our soul can reach enlightenment quicker, and they accomplish this by teaching us life lessons. Our souls need to experience a variety of lessons in order to reach enlightenment. The easiest lessons to learn are love, joy and happiness as they only require limited discipline and resources from us. The harder lessons involve hurt, pain, anger, jealousy, betrayal and ultimately forgiveness, all of which require strength and resilience to get through. Your soul mate is usually the one who will teach you these harder lessons in order to help your soul evolve. Often our soul mates take on bad karma, which is a big deal given that bad karma can limit a soul’s evolution. Accumulating bad karma can add multiple reincarnations onto a soul’s journey, which results in enlightenment being further out of reach. A soul mate will take on this bad karma in order to help you grow, discarding their own wellbeing in the process. This usually plays out in our lives as a victim/abuser relationship. Soul mates usually meet under difficult circumstances and when one or both of them are emotionally unbalanced. This could be the result of any number of situations from one of them experiencing a difficult childhood, to being in an unfulfilling long-term relationship with someone else. Soul mates are very often people we hook up with on the rebound or people we have affairs with. It is a rarity to come across soul mate relationships that are sustainable and which pan out for the rest of a person’s life. Usually the soul mate relationships that do go the distant come in the form of parent/child soul mate relationships. The easiest way to understand why soul mate relationships aren't sustainable is that once a soul mate has taught the other person the lesson they needed to learn, the soul mate will move on and the relationship will end. It often ends painfully and leaves hurt and confusion behind. When soul mates first meet there is usually a warning sign that the road ahead will be rocky. Because there’s such a strong soul history and connection between the two there will be gut feelings and instincts kick in which warn you about treading any further with this person. You may feel scared of them for no reason, initially find them unattractive, perceive them to be stupid or any other number of negative feelings. These warning signs are usually very subtle though and are the result of past lives spent together. The other thing that happens when soul mates first meet is that they can’t stop thinking about the other person once they leave the first meeting. That’s regardless of whether they felt any negative feelings towards them or not. Soul mates have a passion for each other which they will both find hard to comprehend, let alone explain. It can be an extremely intense, all-consuming bond which can make both parties discard all other responsibilities and areas of their lives. Soul mate relationships do have some very redeeming features though as they usually give us the feeling of being totally understood, connected and needed. Love is naturally the result of those feelings too. As I mentioned earlier, soul mate relationships usually end, and badly too. A situation will come up that forces them to be separated or one soul mate will voluntarily walk away from the other one. There is always a catalyst for a break up. More often than not the soul mate relationship intensity will go the other way and change from being intensely loving and connected to causing intense hate, anger and hurt. Healing from a soul mate relationship break up is the difficult part as there is no permanent fix, let alone a quick one. I usually recommend completely cutting contact, blocking them on your phone and social media and doing everything you can not to have contact with them. Continued contact, no matter how small, will result in your soul mate teaching you the same hard lesson over and over again until you get it. On a spiritual level, a soul mate connection can be weakened through etheric cord cutting (read my past blog post on Etheric Cord Cutting here). Since such a strong etheric cord connects soul mates it is near impossible to severe it, but weakening it can bring the connection back down to a normal level. New soul mate connections have been abundant this year due to 2018 being a spiritual growth year, and who better to help us grow than our very own soul mate. If you have come across a soul mate this year be prepared for the relationship to end next year if it hasn’t already done so. Love and light x P.S.
